Art Connection Marine Artist

You can't help but notice this artists' work - especially when you're down in Naples and how it reminds you of Cape Cod. After admiring her work, and a quick inquiry about the artist -  sure enough, she's a local Upper Cape Cod artist displaying in Naples.

 Here's a story to tell you a little more about her work, where she displays, and to share her beautiful artwork with you.

   Barbara Leger, illuminist featured in American Art Collector June 2011 and Cape Cod Life Magazine 2008 Arts Edition, she is classified as a fine marine artist in the American tradition. Barbara is exalted for her absolute understanding of the expansion, depth, roll and brine of the ocean. As a leading illuminist, she is able to portray the water almost to the point of sound and motion. Barbara understands that Art has the power to collaborate on the task of raising public understanding about and stewardship of our oceans. Her mission is to demonstrate how the arts can be an effective tool in raising public awareness about the critical state of our oceans. Its role as the fabric of life on our planet, the plight of its endangered marine life, as well as the amusement and excitement it offers our lives in swimming, surfing, fishing, and sailing. She offers her small studies as a bridge to healing between us and our oceans.

PHOTO BELOW: This painting "spoke" to me. Cape Cod captured at its best! This particular oil painting depicts the waters of New England - and "the Lion"  too. My love of sailing on the waters of Cape Cod is captured  in this painting by Leger. She evokes fond memories sailing with my family and paints with great detail. She's a true Cape Cod - Florida connection ~ DHA

She has received formal and studio education with a concentration in oil painting. Ms. Leger has also been trained through a Master Apprenticeship Program under the direction of Leo Begin, M.F.A. Yale, and George Taylor, M.F.A. Harvard. She will always be appreciative for the advancement of her skill through the knowledge of her fellow Master Artists. Currently, Barbara is at the core of the reemergence of the illuminist movement. She is lead artist at the Vanderbilt Gallery Nantucket and many other premier galleries throughout New England including Cape Cod and Naples, Florida. Barbara most recent achievement was being recognized by the Oil Painter of America as a finalist in the Eastern Regional Competition.

Artist Expression: Just as the wind moves the water with the sunlight on the waves, so does the culmination of these elements light the Artists spirit. The orchestration of Legers' composition arrives through on site ocean study, hundreds of images from shore and under sail, and the study of racing videos. All of this to understand the many changing faces of the ocean. Like a perfectly choreographed dance, the wind lifts the sea, moves the sails, slants the sculpted vessel, while the sun lights all the receives its shine. The waves curl and the tiny peaks are light to become a field of diamonds. Arriving to the point beyond expectation; the painting is signed.......Leger
