Giving Back Together: Supporting Our Troops Through Community, Education, and Service
At Upper Cape Realty, we believe real estate is about more than homes--it’s about people, community, and showing up when it matters most. This past holiday season, we were proud to support Cape Cod Cares for the Troops by hosting a holiday donation drive that brought together our brokerage, local students, and the broader community in a powerful way.
As both a real estate agent with Upper Cape Realty and a public school teacher, I had the unique opportunity to connect my two worlds in service of something bigger. With the support of our brokerage, we organized a donation drive to collect items for care packages being sent to deployed service members. At the same time, my high school students participated by creating handwritten holiday cards for the troops--each one a small but heartfelt reminder of home.
From Classroom to Care Packages
The students poured thought and care into every card they made. Many had never written to a service member before, and the experience sparked meaningful conversations about service, sacrifice, and gratitude. Their messages were packed alongside donated items during a volunteer packing event hosted by Cape Cod Cares for the Troops, where I also volunteered to help assemble the care packages.
Seeing the community come together--from students and educators to real estate professionals and volunteers--was incredibly moving. But the most powerful moment came later.
A Message That Made It All Worthwhile
We were deeply honored to receive a message and photo from the Marines who received the care packages, including this note from Sgt. Thomas Fitzpatrick of Bravo Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 26, embarked on the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit:
“For many of my Marines, this is their first time being away from friends and family during the holidays. Knowing that you all took the time to think of us and send a piece of home has had an amazing impact on our morale. It truly lifted everyone’s spirits… Please extend our heartfelt thanks to every student. You’ve made our holiday season brighter.”
Those words meant everything--to the students, to our volunteers, and to all of us at Upper Cape Realty. It was a powerful reminder that small acts of kindness can travel a long way.
